Sonogram round 2

Hi Poppy!

We had a busy week with doctors appointments. On Friday we went to get a sonogram and it was awesome. We saw your face, hands, feet, legs, everything! Your heart was beating at 176 bpm which the doctor says is strong. The sonographer kept trying to get you to move by jiggling Mommy's belly, but you weren't very interested, which was a bummer considering the jiggling was not comfortable on Mommy's very full bladder. You did kick your legs a couple of times on your own time and that was pretty awesome. During the sonogram they looked pretty closely at the fluid behind your head to find out if you might have any conditions but all looked good. Then on Wednesday we went to see the doctor for our monthly checkup and got to hear your heartbeat again and it was beating at 174 bpm. It just doesn't get old hearing that heartbeat! The doctor says once you get bigger in Mommy's belly that your heartbeat will slow down but never below 120 bpm. This week you're about 3" long and the size of a lemon or peach. Check out the pictures below.

This picture shows your head on the left and your little body on the right. You can even see a little foot at the top right of the picture. It really just looks like a white splotch, but the sonographer guaranteed us that is a foot! Daddy and Mommy think it's very appropriate that the shape of the black space that holds you is a heart because we already love you so much!

This is a picture of your little arm. You can see your fingers curled toward the front on the left side of the picture. That was a pretty cool thing!

This picture shows your little thighs and butt on the bottom right and your legs in the v position going toward the top left. You can even see your little calves. It's so amazing that you're only 3" and yet so distinguishable in these pictures!

This picture is almost a duplicate of the first one but I couldn't stand to leave it out!

On Feb 19 we get to find out if you're a boy or a girl! We cannot wait and then we can finally start figuring out your name and buy some stuff!

Week 11

Hi Poppy! We don't have much to report this week but we did take another picture of Mommy to show her "baby bump" which still isn't showing! Mommy hasn't gained any weight but is definitely feeling more and more hungry these days and is able to eat a lot more foods that you were not happy with just a few weeks ago so the weight will probably be coming soon. We get an ultrasound on Friday and find out how you're doing so we'll fill you in at the end of this week.

Keep growing little Poppy. You're about the size of a large plum this week at 3" or so and 1/2 oz so keep on!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Wow Poppy, it's 2010 and that means you'll be here in less than 7 months!! You're making Mommy very tired so she didn't even ring in the new year, but was instead in bed by 9:30--which is pretty late for her these days! Daddy's being a really good sport taking care of Mommy and not complaining that she just wants to sleep all the time.

There's a lot going on with you right now but Mommy doesn't feel any of it. You're the size of a lime right now at about 2 to 2 1/4 inches. You've come a long way from the Poppy seed! You've got your organs and you can bend your arms and move around a bit, though I won't feel it for many more weeks. You're building bones and cartilage this week (week 10) and we're almost to the end of the first trimester which Mommy can't wait for.

We go to the doctor in two weeks for another ultrasound and we'll tell you all about it then. We'll even get to find out how much you weigh then! According to the books Mommy's reading, you weigh about 1/3 oz right now which is so tiny but you're growing so fast and that will start doubling and tripling soon.

We are so excited for this year. Each event that has happened, like Christmas and Thanksgiving, we keep saying next year Poppy will be with us! We'll try to take care of everything we need to and learn everything we can before you get here, but it is going to go so fast and then we'll be able to hold you and not just wonder about you.

Happy New Year little one. It's going to be the year you were born, the start of a new decade and a wonderful new part of our lives.
